primavera functional medicine focus areas

Nutrition: Is your diet nourishing you or causing you to have gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, eczema, acne, chronic nasal congestion/post nasal drip, brain fog, anxiety and so on?

Food choices can have a dramatic effect on health. Most of us would agree that highly processed, refined foods are not considered health promoting, but sometimes even the healthiest of foods choices like fruits and vegetables could be the culprit of your myriad of symptoms. In addition to diet modifications, we utilize KBMO IgG food sensitivity testing to identify food intolerance and sensitivities.

Digestion/Absorption: Is your body efficiently absorbing the food you eat ?

Our bodies need to digest and absorb macro and micronutrients like protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. All are needed for proper cellular function and health. We utilize urine organic acid testing and blood work to evaluate vitamin and mineral sufficiency.

Functional Bowel Disorders: Have you been diagnosed with what is referred to as a “functional bowel disorder” like irritable bowel syndrome or functional dyspepsia?

Symptoms of abdominal pain and distention, constipation, diarrhea, belching, bloating, and gas are also commonly associated with these disorders, and they can be assessed with specialized testing. These symptoms can be related to an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut, a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, or a parasitic or fungal infection. We use Diagnostic Solutions GI MAP, Great Plains Organic Acid and Mycotoxins tests to assess these disorders.

Hormonal Imbalances: Are fatigue, belly fat, hot flushes, night sweats, interrupted sleep, hair loss or facial hair growth and difficulty losing weight affecting your quality of life?

Hormonal imbalances in both men and women can be assessed through salivary or urinary hormone testing. We use Dutch hormone panels to evaluate estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and cortisol levels. We also consider a complete thyroid panel including TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies to assess thyroid function.
